We hope you'll find enough here for you to get a feel for who we are and what we do. On our <A HREF="events.htm" CLASS="main">events</A> page we have some photos, so that you can get some idea of what we look like!</P> <P>The Holmbury St Mary Choral Society is an amateur choir drawing its membership from the region of the Surrey Hills (an area of outstanding natural beauty near Dorking and Guildford to the south-west of London) and outlying towns and villages. </P> <P>The choir usually undertakes at least three concert programmes a year: a Christmas Concert, the Leith Hill Musical Festival competition and concert, and a summer concert. We managed four in 2006 and five in 2007, but these were exceptional. </P> <P>The choirs ethos is centred on a good-humoured quest for musical excellence. We have enjoyed considerable success in our division of the Leith Hill Festival over several years. In the 2008 and 2009 Festivals we were spectacularly successful under the baton of our conductor, <A HREF="http://www.amybebbington.co.uk/" CLASS="main">Amy Bebbington</A>, who started working with us in September 2007. For further details of our successes see the <A HREF="events.htm" CLASS="main">events</A> page.</P> <P>Holmbury St Mary Choir welcomes new members; the main requirement being that you enjoy choral singing. There are no auditions, though some previous experience is recommended, as is a willingness to work hard! Rehearsals are held in Abinger Hammer (just off the A25) on Thursdays, broadly in alignment with the school terms. Although the choir fund-raises on a regular basis, additional financial help is always welcome. This is where you may be able to help, at the same time becoming more involved in the choir’s activities – by becoming a Friend.</P> <P>As a Friend you would be entitled to</P> <UL> <LI>a 10% discount on 1 pre-booked ticket per concert (Holmbury St Mary Choral Society Concerts only);</LI> <LI>a bi-annual newsletter giving information concerning future concerts (with opportunities for early booking) and other choir activities;</LI> <LI>an invitation to the choir’s AGM and their annual summer barbecue.</LI> </UL> <P>The membership fee is a minimum of £10, renewable annually.
